YOU MUST LEARN A NEW WAY TO THINK BEFORE YOU CAN MASTER A NEW WAY TO BE.
~MARIANNE WILLIAMSON
The year 2020 has been a year of great change for every person on some level. As a voice coach and keyboard instructor to many creators in LA and across the world, I am seeing how so many are desiring to grow, expand, become more, learn more and do more musically. With the increase in people’s time due to less social engagement outside of the home, it’s forcing people to think about their goals and dreams and how they can prepare for them during this time. So many people are eager to do lessons more than ever, because they realize that even though conditions aren’t perfect, they have the time and means to grow and they are taking advantage of it.
We are over half way through 2020 and many people wish it was over already. As much as it’s been difficult, I try to see what good can come out of it, as I admit to having little control over many of the events. When I surrender to that knowing that I can’t control everything, but I can control both how I react to things and my thinking, that’s when the world around me starts to shift. I start to see what opportunities of growth are before me to improve, educate and strengthen myself both professionally and personally. Professionally, I have wanted to get into voice over work for a few years now, so I finally created a voice over demo and am starting to do work in that field. I’ve also been pushing myself forward to do more on camera work. Since video making isn’t my forte, I’m studying various youtube tutorials on how to make different types of videos, so that I can increases my influence as an artist and music business.
I encourage you as a creator to take this time that you’ve been given and focus on new skills that you know you need to strengthen in the years to come. This is a time of reinventing for creators, a time for acceleration and a time to rethink how we’ve been doing things. It’s only when we change our mindsets that we can learn to create a new reality around us.
I will never forget what my tennis coach in high school, Bill Huhner, shared with our team at the start of our season. He shared this quote by Charles Swindoll and to this day it has stuck with me as a reminder. “We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
What kind of changes have you made this year to better yourself? I’d love to hear from you!
