Compartir vs. Competir

Being in the world we live in with social media can be challenging for anyone but especially for artists. It’s so important to be you and share your talent with the world around you. Oftentimes, we get caught between two worlds-the world of sharing and the world of competition.

Compartir & competir are two words in the Spanish language that sound and look very similar but mean two completely different things. Compartir means to share and competir means to compete. It’s easy to step into one without even realizing it because there is such a fine line. When we focus on sharing instead of trying to compete with others, we will be happier and find a deeper level of creative energy.

When you believe and remember that there is enough for everyone, that the world has an abundance of opportunities and there is a special place for you, you don’t have to worry about trying to compete. You understand and can appreciate others’ talents without judgment or comparison, because you know you are unique and there’s no one quite like you.

As singers and musicians, we are uniquely made with unique purposes. Find out what you’re good at, what makes you unique, what you have to offer that no one else quite does like you, and do that A LOT! Keep sharing that and remember the only person you need to compete with is yourself. Be the best version YOU can be.
