Refresh your Resolutions

We all need a refresher from time to time with our goals!

I know the struggle of feeling like you’re all alone, with a never ending to-do list! Here are some tips that I have found effective in staying focused on your goals during those dreary, mundane moments of life:

  • Write your goals down and post them everywhere.

The act of writing down your goals requires a level of clarity that just thinking about them doesn’t. This then communicates with the logic or literal sense of us, that “I’m serious about this. I mean business. This matters to me. This is my life”

Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California did a study with 267 people-men and women from all over the world, from all walks of life, including entrepreneurs, educators, healthcare professionals, artists, lawyers and bankers. She divided the group into two-those that wrote their goals down and those that didn’t. She discovered that those who wrote down their goals and dreams on a regular basis achieved those desires at a significantly higher level than those who didn’t.

She discovered you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you wrote them down!!

  • Share your goals and dreams with a friend who believes in you

Talking about your goals to your close friends and family will help you to filter out who’s on your side and who will ultimately hold you back. This is good information to know when certain people fall off by the wayside as you get closer to your goals. Some people get hyper critical of  your ambitions and dreams and it’s best to cut them out of those now so you don’t have to feel let down further on down the road. Some people are more neutral when you tell them your goals-they don’t get excited but neither do they get upset. There’s no need to cut these people out. The bottom line, is figure out the people that can handle your big goals and dreams and aren’t going to diminish them when you talk about them.

Staying accountable is CRUCIAL! The more often you talk about your goals with your “supporters”, the more likely you’ll achieve them.

  • Give yourself deadlines

Every human relies on deadlines since our lives our governed by time. If your goals are governed by you and you alone, you’ll have no one to report to except yourself. Write down specific dates you’re going to accomplish certain tasks to reach your goals. This will help you to stay on task and remember, time is of the essence!

  • Make a Vision Board to discover your goals

The saying is true-a picture says a thousand words. Use imagery to remind you of your goals. For example, if you want to go on a vacation, put pictures on the vision board of places you’d like to visit.

Personally, I like to create my visions boards in Canva. From there I PRINT THEM OUT! That’s right, print them out and display them everywhere you will see them daily. Maybe place one on your refrigerator, one on your bathroom mirror, one on your closet door, one by your bed, one in your office and one in your car.

If this blog resonated with you, feel free to share it with others who may benefit! I’m cheering you on today!
